I downloaded Tabs Mix Plus solely so I could toggle back and forth between two tabs to make it easier to get work done. So how do I toggle between two tabs?

I'd say it's an overkill. Search AMO to see if there's something more simple. It doesn't make sense to have such a huge ext. for one function.
This, for instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ctrl-tab

Events/Tab features > check Ctrl+Tab navigates ... and UNcheck Show tab previews.
