First, make sure you have the latest TMP version installed. Restore the default settings: Settings > Restore default > Apply.
2. Go to Events/New Tabs and check Open other tabs next to current one + Only if related to current tab:

http://tmp.garyr.net/help/#Display_-_Tab_barIf you don't see this button (New tab button, looks like a plus sign), Right click on any toolbar/Customize... and drag out of the Customize window on to the tabbar.
