Is TMP ever going to come out of development and become compatible with Fx 3.01. What is the problem...

I can make any extension compatible with Mr Tech, but that is besides the point. If the dev works without any bugs then release it to AMO or turn it over to someone that can.

This is one more not very smart remark in the pile of those already been answered to. How about this 'ultimatum' - use it or don't.

Save .xpi to desktop.
Right-click on it.
Select 'open with' if available, otherwise, select 'open'.
Choose 'select the program from a list'.
In subsequent dialogue box, select WinRar (7Zip worked for me.)
At the top level of the archive you should find 'install.rdf'.
Drag 'install.rdf' to the desktop.
Right-click on it.
Select 'open with' if available, otherwise, select 'open'.
Choose 'select the program from a list'.
In the subsequent dialogue box, select Notepad (GVim worked for me.)
Search for line 'em:maxVersion="3.0"'.
Replace "3.0" with higher version. ("4.0" worked for me.)
Save file.
Drag 'install.rdf' from desktop back into the archive, overwriting existing file.
Exit Notepad, WinRar and delete install.rdf from your desktop.
Drag the .xpi from your desktop into your FF window. Install.
Delete the .xpi from your desktop (or save it, your choice.)

With MR Tech Toolkit it's just one click, for every not compatible extension....

I can use Mr Tech or Nightly tools or do it myself but that is not the point. What is the problem here with TMP. If it is so easy to fix using 3rd party tools why can't the author of this extension finish it himself? I will not use extensions that are not compatible nor will I force them to be. This is getting beyond ridiculous. I really miss TBE.

Any hope of finding out how this edit can be done on a Mac? Unfortunately RAR utilities available on the Mac are either out of date or one way - you can extract but can't reinsert an edited file into an archive.

Thanks if anyone can provide a Mac-based solution. Firefox 3.0.1 just installed itself without any indication there would be a problem and of course, now there's no TMP. In other words (as you already know) FF is unusable. Really.

@lack of mac

try other compression utilities for mac, i don't think this has anything to do with rar format. xpi is a compression format different from rar.

You can find the install.rdf in your FireFox extensions folder. Something similar to:

C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\pa9e5v5a.default\extensions\{dc572301-7619-498c-a57d-39143191b318}

{dc572301-7619-498c-a57d-39143191b318} is a key - you'll see many in your extensions folder so you'll need to open each {key}\install.rdf and look for the following lines:
Code:

 RDF:Description RDF:about="urn:mozilla:extension:file:tabmixplus.jar"
                 em:package="content/tabmixplus/"
                 em:skin="skin/classic/tabmixplus/"

Then change maxVersion to something higher than 3.0 - for example:
Code:

 RDF:Description RDF:about="rdf:#$Otko01"
                 em:id="{ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384}"
                 em:minVersion="1.0"
                   em:maxVersion="3.2"
