From a page of Google search hits, I would usually click a link and it would open a new tab. Now it's replacing the current tab. I haven't consciously changed anything. Here are what I think are the relevant settings:

I have now, but it's still the same. Frustrating, as this is something I spend a lot of time doing. :(

Aha - that last point, about Google, gave me an idea. I was using the search that's added by TabGroups Manager (because it lets you open a new group if you want). I changed to 'Google UK - fromthe UK' and the problem disappeared.

Then I went back to the TGM search option, tried a new search, and that was OK, opening links in new tabs, just as it used to.

So the problem seemed to be confined just to that one instance of the search.

Anyway, thanks for your help in isolating and fixing it.

BTW, how could I determine the "Google site address"?

This problem is back again.

And now this is the same whatever Google Search I use.

This is with 0.3.8.5pre.100918a. Has something else changed?

BTW, you didn't answer my question about how I determine what you called the "Google site address"?

Thanks onemen. I've now studied that thread but so far I still don't have a practical fix.

I was hopeful when I saw makondo's comment that "...we already know that one can change this in [Google's] prefs." But as you see here

that made no difference here. Nor the other setting about Instant mentioned by GuyScharf.

Maybe I've not followed properly?

I also tried reverting to two earlier versions of TMP but that didn't seem to fix it either.

I've been looking for relevant posts in Google Help, but they're mainly familiar suggestions like this about cookies:
http://www.google.com/support/websearch ... answer=533

I have posted a query about the preferences here
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/W ... c531&hl=en

but I'm not confident I have a good enough grasp of the issue to widen it properly to Firefox and TMP.

I've also sent the following using that Google Feedback link you suggested:

I have been trying to find the cause of a new problem I have in Firefox. When I get a page of hits from a Google search and click a link, it always used to display correctly in a new tab (using the Firefox add-on TabMix Plus). But now it is replacing the current tab, which is a real nuisance.

I have been in discussion with the TMP developer, but it seems to be a Google issue.

One promising thing I tried was changing two references at this page
http://www.google.com/preferences

The obvious one was Results Window, but that made no difference.

I'd also read in my research that the problem might be due to the Instant option, but again it made no difference.

I'm now wondering if these preferences are actually getting saved?

I've made progress! :)

This page, which is the one given in Google's own Web Search Help Forum, doesn't work properly. My settings were not saved from here, even though they appeared to be.
http://www.google.com/preferences

This one, arrived at by a different route, does work!
http://www.google.co.uk/preferences?hl=en

After enabling 'Open search results in a new browser window' I happily recovered the lost 'new tab' facility.

BTW, that's not a good description IMO. I was already getting the Search Results page opening in a new tab. It's the individual 'hit links' that were opening in the same tab, losing the page of results.

Here's a thread that seems relevant.

Try this experimental version

we need to verify that we don't brake any Google or other site functionality
so try to use Gmail, Google Voice and so on.

Nice work, guys. You nailed it quickly. And a CFU, at that: A Google feature has a bug and TMP caught a cold. So I'll look forward to the various fixes. Thanks very much.

If you don't mind giving up Instant until these matters are cleared up:
Next to the search box on a Google search results page, there's a pull-down to turn off Google Instant. Turning it off allows links to open in a new tab.

Sednih< I had the same experience. Turn OFF Google Instant search.

Then the search links open in new tabs.

Bad thing, still, is the original Google tab does not stick, but shows the search tab you just entered.

Yahoo has never worked, with any edition of TMP or FF. Just gave up.

The last couple of posts puzzle me, as I didn't find any relationship between the Instant option and opening 'hit links' in new tabs.

Don't worry about them, Terry. Just posting without reading first.
How's the experimental working for you?

The problem's back for me. Earlier solutions no longer seem to fix it.

I just have to remember to duplicate a tab before I start a search.

Note that I'm talking about FORUM searches, not Google searches.

Any new thoughts anyone?

Did you try the latest dev.build with a clean profile? I know you're using TGM, could be a conflict right there.

Thanks makondo, I'll try that.

BTW, did you never try TGM? How do you manage large numbers of open tabs?
