I have taken the "Segaja/Chris Unofficial V2 Patched Dev TMP build" and added the change Chris000001 suggested to it and uploaded it again to http://segaja.de/stuff/tab_mix_plus-dev-build.xpi.

It works fine for me.

Best regards
Segaja

Hi guys, I'm using the latest Tab Mix Plus build with the latest Firefox Nightly build. Lately I've noticed that I can't move my tab positions by clicking and dragging them. Is this broken with Nightly, or do I maybe have a settings messed up?

edit: ahhh I just saw the above post. So looks like this is a known bug and hopefully it is being worked on? Unless does anyone know of a workaround?

No workaround that I am aware of. The good thing is that it is not a "fatal" issue meaning it does not render things unusable.

I would assume that onemen is either busy with other things or is waiting for something else to land before revising TMP to work with the tab animation setup.

My worst hack to date.
add:
let TAB_DROP_TYPE = 'text/plain';

to the beginning of tab mix plus.xpi\chrome\tabmixplus.jar\content\minit\minit,js

It stops TAB_DROP_TYPE from causing an error. I can drag and drop tabs to reorder or drop off Firefox to open a new window. This really might mess something up, but so far I have not ran into problems. You don't get the fancy new animations.

this is better
var TAB_DROP_TYPE = "application/x-moz-tabbrowser-tab";

Thanks, onemen.

Let me know if you have any problems with downloading the xpi file.

The modification was only to enable TMP users to reorder tabs which broke due to a patch landing. Nothing more. Sorry.

Your font may be affecting the width as well. It look like it is trying to make space for 2 chars which might be a min, but there just isnt enough room. Try bumping up the tab width by increments of 2 until there is no overlap. I use the Tahoma Font and set mine for 48 and it seems to work fine.

For reference, the problem with tab width on mac:
Image

I'm not sure why the choice of font would matter, at any rate it's the default because I don't know how to change it. Anything smaller than a width of 41 causes the tabs to draw incorrectly on mac, but on windows using 28 does the right thing (where "right thing" means "allow tabs to shrink until only the favicon is visible"):

Also, isn't the gradient upside down for multi-row on XP? Flipping it in an image editor makes it look like this:

The reason I mentioned the font is based on looking at your screenshot, it appears you only have space for 1 char (particularly that font and uppercase "W"). I believe you must alter the userChrome.css file to change the font. Its not difficult, but if you are not familiar with it, perhaps that is not a good choice.

Still think if you change the width from 28 or so to 36 or 48 it may fix some of your problem. My point is you are not getting the size of 28 because the font is forcing more space attempting to display the wide font.

Im not suggesting this is the right answer but thought it might help. This doesnt quite demonstrate what I want to show, but might help. The far right tab should display "Welcome to whyNot.com". but because the W is too wide so nothing shows until you widen the tab or change the font. If I make no other change than the font to Tahoma it will display OK.

It seems yours is so narrow and the font so large and that particular font has a wide "W", might be the problem.

Thanks, Gingerbread Man for the instructions on posting a thumbnail :) worked like a champ!

Bruce,

The 'W' there is actually a favorite icon of Wikipedia - the width is set to 28, and yet no words at all are showing, only the favicon....

romin and John,

Maybe Im wrong, but I still think the problem is the tab design and font rendering. The tab "title" space is fixed relative to the preset tab width by the user and there is only 1 line for Icon and text.

The Icon takes 'x' amount of space. The remaining space is available for text. It appears to me that after the Icon there isnt enough space to allow the display of any characters (or text). Thats why I suggested for verification just bump it out to something like 36 or 48 - you can always put it back.

This is a condition to what forces vertical scroll bars in Notepad. You can demonstrate this to yourself using Notepad.
- Type in a line of text.
- Copy it vertically several times.
- Drag the bottom of the text box up to the last row of text.
- Note: if you pull it up just a bit too far, the last line drops off and the vertical scroll bar appears. This is because the viewport cannot display the complete char box, so it doesnt display any (no half char).

This is what I was trying to explain in this image. There isnt enough space for 1 "full" character, therefore it wont display anything other than the full Icon (which there is enough space).

The only other thing I can think of is if you have the Currently selected tab set for BOLD, which will take more space too. That may be causing the overlap. Setting any text to bold will force the space available to increase in all directions.

Bruce,

I'm not really sure what you're getting at. Yes, if you increase the min tab width the problem eventually goes away (when set to at least 41, as I said in my last post), but it should work all the way down to where only the favicon is visible, just like it does on Windows.

This is clearly a bug in either TMP or Fx on Mac. Even if there's some technical reason that prevents the tab from shrinking any further than it currently does, there's still a bug. Look at how the outlines of the tabs overlap each other. Basically, it's allowing the tab spacing to shrink to the value you set while the actual tab width is being forced to something wider. Like I said, this works correctly on Windows.

romin712,

Im sorry, I didnt realize the small lines in the background were the tab outlines until you pointed that out in your second to last paragraph above. Sorry if I was misleading.

Im still trying to learn...how do you get the Favicons to display on the tab? Id like to experiment on my own.

Hello again. What is the situation with the animation of tabs?
Will it fixed to release the Firefox 7?

TMP 0.3.8.6pre.110806a works with FF 8.0a1 just fine, no complaints, I can move tabs 2 ways, by doing list all tabs or by grabbing a tab and dragging and dropping the tab where I want It to be.

Bruce, favs display on tabs by default. If you don't see them, then you have a .css hiding them. But notice also that ronin is on MAC.

Black_Sun,

there will be an update soon, 'before 7 release' (as onemen told me). No need to repeat the same reports and/or nag. As usual, it will not expedite anything but will create 'unpleasant tension' around here. "Patience is a virtue" Image

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this or not (or even if TMP is even being maintained anymore), but using 0.3.8.6pre.110429a (and in the unofficial 110806a version) in the just released Firefox 6 results in the following messages on start up:

TabMix :
TMP_tablib_init can't find string: this.addTab("about:blank", {skipAnimation: true});
in gBrowser._endRemoveTab
report about this to Tabmix developer at http://tmp.garyr.net/forum/
----------
TabMix :
updateOpenTabset can't find string: aWindow.openDialog(aWindow.getBrowserURL(), "_blank", "chrome,all,dialog=no", urls.join("|"));
in PlacesUIUtils._openTabset
report about this to Tabmix developer at http://tmp.garyr.net/forum/

I've also noticed that occasionally opened tabs won't display for about 10 seconds (though they appear in the tab drop arrow list). Similarly closed tabs sometimes stick around for a while after they are closed. I don't know if that's a TMP issue or not.
