after installing tab mix plus, I immediately noticed a pervasive problem associated with drop down menus. All of the drop down menus in the GUI, not just those associated specifically with this addon, exhibit the following behavior:

1) click or hover the cursor over the menu item/arrow or whatever other item will open up the menu

2) for a fraction of a second, the drop down menu appears

3) after that fraction of a second (Way too fast to read even a single letter of a single word, even if you have your eyes trained on the same spot), the menu goes blank.

the black outline that indicates the borders of the menu are still visible, but nothing else... no white/grey background, nothing

4) when I hover the mouse over the menu it comes back sporadically, but flashes off as soon as I stop scrolling.

in the case of the URL bar, if I type something it will flash then disappear, but reappears/disappears after I type each letter or scroll.

I have firefox 7.0.1, Win7 Ult 64 bit fully updated, with the newest version of Tab Mix Plus.

Please read the troubleshooting tips linked in my signature.
Try a clean profile with TMP only installed.

I had the same problem.
Windows 7 Pro new install (albeit a corporate install)
Firefox 11.0
TMP 0.4.0.1

I did as Makondo said and started with a fresh profile (<Firefox install dir>\firefox.exe -profilemanager). I added TMP and the problem immediately started.
What I noticed though was that if I moved the mouse cursor outside of the pull down menu (I was using the Firefox tools pull down menu BTW) the pull down window would go into an outline with no content. When I moved the mouse back into the pull down menu it would start flashing wildly when I tried to scroll up/down the menu.
Then the light above my head went on and that behavior looked just like the pull downs on regular Windows windows.
So, I went into the Windows visual settings (Control Panel > System > Advanced system settings > Performance > Visual Effects Settings > Custom) and selected "Adjust for best performance" which turns everything off. Restarted Firefox and the problem is gone.
I am not sure which of the Visual Effects settings is the culprit. I did turn on the following Effects with no issues:
    Show shadows under mouse pointer
    Show shadows under windows
    Smooth edges of screen fonts

This is a rather old thread but i'd bet on driver and hardware acceleration (maybe). Try disabling it (if you see this happening again) - Fx options/Advanced/General. I don't think it has to do with TMP though mostly 'cause i didn't see any other reports of this nature.

Yeah, I spoke too soon. After a while the problem started happening again. I disabled hardware acceleration and the problem seems to be gone. For now....
Thx
