Hello,

I used to use Firefox 3.6.x, but after finally updating to the latest version (13.0), I've discovered that I can no longer do something I have grown very reliant upon: the ability to drag a tab into a text field (such as the one in which I am typing this post) to have the URL of the page in the tab automatically pasted.

It was very handy, much faster than having to go to the other tab, select the address bar, copy it, then back again to the first tab, click where I were, paste. (And, as a bonus, it preserved the content of the clipboard, instead of overwriting it.)

I don't see any option that looks like it'd get this behavior back.

I don't think TMP has ever had this as an option. Might be some other ext. you're using which might be incompatible now with Fx13. The default Fx behavior for dragging tabs is to open a new window. TMP does nothing about it other than if you drag w/in the tabbar, it will rearrange them.

I don't have my old Firefox appdata folders anymore; but I don't remember having ever had another tab-specific plugin. It seems more likely that it was Firefox itself that changed its behavior. That said, I've since found a little plugin called Bug489729 where the "Enable drop URL" option does what I wanted.

It might be a good idea to incorporate this feature in TMP?

I can confirm that this behavior is caused by the TMP extension. I see this behavior (or lack of behavior) on FF 10.0 and 11.0 on Windows 7 and RHEL 5.3 using the TMP 0.4.0.2 extension.

If I disabled TMP and restart, I am once again able to drag tabs around on the tab bar.

Partial workaround is to go to the FF tab groups tool and reorder there. This is sadly not a option for the OP as I do not believe the FF Groups is in FF 3.6

Dragging tabs to rearrange within the tabbar works fine for me, Fx14b now and all previous versions. If it doesn't work for you, read the troubleshooting tips linked in my signature and see if you can find conflicting ext. (try a new profile to see how this works).
From what i understand, the OP is talking about Fx feature - 'detach' tab - drag a tab off the tabbar, drop anywhere and it will open in a new window. To avoid that, there exts. available, like the one that has been mentioned above. To open a link in the same window you can drag the link to the tabbar and it should open in the same window as a tab.
Personally, i've never heard of dragging a tab to a textbox to have it's url pasted in that textbox.

But it exists nonetheless and it is extremely handy.

I don't care about the "detach tab" feature; and never had any problem with rearranging tab order. Just the drop URL thing. :)

I like to keep the number of plugins low, so if TMP could integrate bug489729's "enable drop URL" option, I'd be happy. If not, well, no problem.
