I would appreciate an additional selection on the Session Start/Exit tab of the Tab Mix Plus Options menu whereby the user can decide if they want a reload or not upon start up when Restore is selected. I run a lot of tabs and sometimes I have a slow broadband connection. In that case I'd love the tabs to just be restored and display any cached content that's available, but not actually reload anything unless I either click Firefox's Reload icon for a single tab or perhaps click a "Reload All" icon added by TMP.

Thanks for your consideration. Great Add-on!

Very good, I see that now. However, it was already unchecked and yet all tabs reload at Start. Is there a Firefox option that might need to be disabled? Thanks again.

I tried makondo's solution as per the on-line manual and it works fine! Although I had requested the feature recently it seems it was there all along - just a question of setting the options up correctly.

Can you please explain exactly what you did? I've checked what I think are the correct boxes but mine reloads all tabs upon startup. Interestingly, if I start a private browsing session then stop it, when it returns from the private session, all tabs reappear with the titles in red italics and they only reload when clicked. This is the exact behavior I'd like TMP to have every time I start Firefox.

Hmmm, I spoke too soon... I was using a restart add-on ("Restartless Restart") to test and restored Tabs were behaving as I hoped (not loading until clicked). But after quiting FF the normal way and relaunching it all Tabs are reloaded in spite of the fact "Reload all tabs" is deselected in the TBP options (Session/Restore).

Maybe because Private Browsing turns off the History function? I'll try fiddling around with the settings a little more, but I can't see there's much more the user can do. Hopefully the developers can figure it out (assuming it is possible...) - certainly be an asset to the app, especially given unnecessay downloading can impact on those with monthly GB limits (the majority I would imagine)

Sorry to get everyone's hopes up!

I am a little uncertain what is being said here...

Am I hearing that, if the FFx setting for "Don't load tabs until selected" is UNCHECKED (FFx > Options > Tabs), and the TMP setting for "Reload all tabs" is also UNCHECKED (TMP > Session > Restore), we can restart FFx and select a Session to restore tabs/URLs but only the FOCUSED tab will actually load the content from the cloud?

My problem has been that the TMP online manual does not fully explain all the features/checkboxes, just lists them in some cases as with "Reload all tabs".

Thank you for the continued development of TMP which is my top add-on. :)

The settings you cited may be what is intended to cause the behavior you specified...but it doesn't work. All tabs always reload for me upon a startup of FF when using TMP, which is a real drag.

I have many tabs as well and my tabs load lazily. It seems to me you must have a setting making all your tabs reload on startup.

I used to use an extension to force lazy loading, but that has since been incorporated into FF. (FF > Options > General > Don't load tabs until selected). My Sessions are not handled by TMP, as I use Session Manager (http://sessionmanager.mozdev.org/).

Hi Kache,

Do you remember what that extension was called? I've installed Session Manager which has many excellent options, but non-loading of restored Tabs at start up isn't one of them.

Thanks,

Will

Probably Load tabs progressively, you can search AMO. But as said above, this option is now in Fx by default, since Fx14, i believe. TMP doesn't have such an option, as far as i know, ... (yet?). BTW, i have that option unchecked also and my tabs reload on Fx start as well. Of course, i use betas and maybe this will be fixed ... or onemen will add a - working - option.

Probably Load tabs progressively ...

Thanks for the tip! I've added Load Tabs Progressively and it's solved my problem overhaul, albeit in a roundabout way. I have it set to load 4 Tabs max, with priority set to Right Tabs. So, on a Mac, if I'm Command-clicking links on a web page they all appear as background Tabs to the right on the Tab bar, but only the first four actually load. When I close the Tab the next right Tab becomes focused (it had already loaded) and the fouth Tab along now starts loading, and so on. If FF is quit and relaunched the add-on ensures only the first 4 right-most Tabs are actually loaded no matter how many Tabs were restored. This occurs in each FF multi-Tab window that was restored from the previous session. All the other Tabs are 'darkened' (color scheme kept intact) to indicate that their content hasn't yet been loaded/refreshed. But if you click on one unloaded Tab, three more will load (depending on the number you set in the Preferences). I'd like to have more control over this.

The add-on seems to be happily co-existing with the Session Manager add-on and Tabs Mix Plus.

I can also confirm that TMP + Load Tabs Progressively work fine with My Weekly Browsing (an excellent ULR scheduler). No matter how many pages you've scheduled in MWB to load automatically, LTP controls which pages are fully downloaded while only the page titles are shown for the others until you click on them (depending on how you've set up LTP). And every Tab's status is nicely colour coded by TMP (if you've set it up to do that). Adding the plug-ins NoSquint (set your own page and text size preference per site) and Adblock Plus to the mix has given me the best browsing experience ever. Try it!
