Some of the obvious ones:

  1. What extensions does TMP have a known conflict with?
  2. What extensions does the functionality provided by TMP replace?
  3. Why doesn't XXX feature work like this (explanation)?
  4. What does XXX feature really do?
  5. Who are CPU and onemen?
  6. Can I modify this extension for my own use?
  7. Is there any way I can help with the development?
  8. Is there any other way I can help (donations, etc)?

I will try to think of some more.

I really like the idea CPU... Some suggestions in addition to the ones above:

What is the difference between Tab Mix and Tab Mix Plus?

How did Tab Mix plus come about?

What are the advantages/disadvantages to using a product like Tab Mix vs. individual extensions?

How do I localize Tab Mix in my language?

Are there any planned upcoming features for Tab Mix?

Also, I would be interested in helping compile/maintain this resource....

Darin

Will TabMix[Plus] support SeaMonkey (aka Mozilla Suite)?

Sometimes it's nice when an FAQ covers just about everything a person could possibly ask, even if it bloats the file to be huge. The benefit is that the document is searchable ... and if it's got a table-of-contents like thing at the top, some of us would discover features/settings we didn't realize we wanted/needed! :)

I was just thinking ... maybe have some major categories in the FAQ such as:
- "How do I...?"
- "What does _____ do?"
- technical issues (i.e. compatibility)
- history and background

Some examples for the first category... admittedly, many are taken from the questions/complaints at addons.mozilla.org.

How do I:
- set up TMP to do what I want? (i.e. where's the Options? for the true newbie)
- get new (blank or home-page) tabs to load in foreground?
- drag a link to an already-existing tab?
- duplicate a tab?
- open results from search bar in new tab? (* Be sure to mention that googlebar has its own preferences that define how it will open new tabs/windows.)
- configure TMP to behave like TBE/TBP/miniT/etc.? (All as separate questions ... I don't know all of the extensions that this one replaces, just that there are a ton of them!)
- change F8/F9 to do what I'm used to it doing?
- make sure I don't accidentally close a tab?
- tell a tab to always open links in new tabs?
(Of course it would also be worthwhile to include the questions, "What does Protect/Lock/Freeze Tab do?")

So far, I think all of the other FAQ ideas mentioned above would fit into these categories... some stuff would be answered in more than one place, but I think redundancy is a good thing in an FAQ (better than having any questions unanswered anyways!)

Q: How can I prevent empty windows from being spawned when I click a download link? (also: How can I configure TMP to take the place of the "Disable Targets for Downloads" extension?)

A: In most cases, you can simply mark the checkbox next to "Links with target attribute or filetype open in current tab" in the General options section. The list of applicable filetypes can be viewed by clicking the '+' at the end of the line of text. If a filetype you are downloading is not on this list, you may add it manually. However, sometimes the download link is a javascript popup instead of a direct link, in which case the behaviour is determined by your javascript settings instead.

.........
Probably the main reason that I've noticed the above-mentioned quirks is because I am one of those anomalous people who like to let pdf files open in Acrobat Reader instead of the browser... so I often get blank windows where most people wouldn't. I'm not sure if there's a way around the javascript popup blank windows that happen .. I'm considering switching back to letting pdf's open in the browser just to "fix" the problem. *shrug* However, since I may not be the only one who encounters this, and it may not just be a pdf thing, I figure it's worth mentioning in the FAQ :)

Awesome, the FAQ is off to a good start.

The best part about it is: I learned something!!! I was having problems due to the extra space at the end of the "links with target attribute" section :) ...I guess it's become a Frequently Encountered Problem and subsequently a Frequently Asked Question, and thus the FAQ is doing its job because I didn't need to pollute the forum with my problem! Instead I can use it to congratulate you on a job well done!

PostPosted: Fri Sep 23, 2005 3:29 am
Thanks for the FAQ. I don't have the technical expertise to add answered questions, but I do have some questions that may fit in the list.

1. What do "foreground" and "background" mean relative to opening tabs?
2. What is "single window mode"?
3. What does "tabs fit their context" mean?
4. What do the "permissions" on the context menu do?

Love the extension; thanks for it.

 Post subject: Tab "Icon?"
PostPosted: Tue Nov 22, 2005 12:07 pm
Some sites, like the Mozilla site or this one, use custom images on the tab and in the URL. Is there, or can there be a setting to change this to the default or some other user specified image/icon?

Thanks!

Apologies, my other post should have been in Feature requests.
Please feel free to relocate the previous message. (Sorry, again...)
